Helping chambers Equality & Diversity Officers understand their responsibilities in this role, in line with the BSB Code of Conduct.

As an Equality and Diversity Officer, you carry a significant amount of responsibility set down by the BSB to ensure robust compliance with equality legislation for chambers.

This bundle of EDO-specific training ensures you have the necessary knowledge to support chambers and members with equality obligations.

In addition to mandatory modules, this bundle includes access to Bar-specific wellbeing modules to help support a well-rounded working environment.

Course Modules

Build understanding, empathy, and awareness of how racial inequality continues to affect individuals and the wider profession. *This training is a mandatory requirement by the Bar Standards Board

Examine bullying and harassment at the Bar, learning to recognise inappropriate behaviour and understand its impact on individuals and workplace culture. Understand the legal and regulatory framework around professional conduct, and learn of practical guidance on accessing support, using reporting structures, and taking appropriate action as a bystander or affected individual. *This training is a mandatory requirement by the Bar Standards Board

Deepen your understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion within context of the Bar and the wider profession. This course considers how discrimination can affect individuals, teams, and the culture of chambers as a whole. *This training is a mandatory requirement by the Bar Standards Board

This module explores how fair recruitment practices strengthen chambers by elevating equality, diversity and inclusion within chambers. It highlights the value of recognising and embracing different perspectives, experiences, and talents, as a means to build a richer, more dynamic set. *This training is a mandatory requirement by the Bar Standards Board

Gain an insight into how fair work allocation can be achieved, the challenges you may encounter in setting up a process, and give you practical tools, tips, and actions to help you develop an approach to best suits your chambers. *This training is a mandatory requirement by the Bar Standards Board

This training aims to shed light on the issue of sexual harassment at the Bar, challenge the culture of silence, and empower all in chambers to recognise, prevent, and respond to sexual harassment. *This module meets all recommendations set out in the Harman Report *This training is a mandatory requirement by the Bar Standards Board & Worker Protection Act 2024.

Understand the root causes of complaints at the Bar, how you can deal with different complaints effectively and how you can improve your set’s ability to manage complaints through uniform processes.

Explore the concept of unconscious bias and how it influences behaviour, decision-making, and interactions within chambers. Learn of practical strategies to recognise and address bias in everyday professional life, as a means of increasing awareness and promoting inclusive practices.

This training module aims to explore how colleagues and managers can provide appropriate support to individuals who have experienced the loss of a baby.

This course aims to break this taboo by raising awareness of how this health issue can impact those affected and assist the rest of the workforce in helping to accommodate their needs.

Understand what mental health is, how to recognise mental health problems and the practical steps to take when seeking help or helping someone else.

Understand what stress is, how it can present itself, both in your professional and personal life and methods you can use to effectively deal with stress when it becomes a prominent issue.

Learn how to spot the signs of vicarious trauma in yourself and in colleagues, and know of steps to take if you are struggling to cope.
