Vicarious Trauma Training
Designed for barristers, clerks and all chambers staff who encounter distressing experiences and material in their working life.
In the legal sector, known for its rapid pace and demanding nature, there is a prevalent mindset of persevering through challenging cases without enough consideration for their impact on our wellbeing, instead we prevail with a 'just get on with it' attitude.
Vicarious trauma is a concept that many are unfamiliar with and relates to the impact of particularly hard cases that cause lasting stress-related symptoms that you may not be aware of.
This course is designed to help those working in all areas of law in identifying vicarious trauma symptoms in themselves or in colleagues and what to do if they are struggling to cope.
What will you learn?
After completing this course, you will understand:
- What vicarious trauma is.
- How it can affect barristers and others working in chambers.
- How to recognise its symptoms in yourself and in colleagues.
- What we can do to minimise the effects of vicarious trauma, both individually and in chambers.
The benefits of completing this training are:
- A broadened awareness of Vicarious Trauma and its effects.
- A deepened understanding of your individual tolerance to traumatic material and clients.
